• 2019 - Position 99

Money Play. Should Red redouble? If redoubled, should White take?

This is effectively a last roll problem. If Red hits he will nearly certainly win (and with a small percentage of gammons). If he misses then he will nearly certainly lose (bar a freak hit or a couple of large doubles).

Twenty rolls hit and sixteen miss. Ergo, Red must redouble now to maximise his equity. A trivial take for White of course. White will win with redouble to 8 unless Red has rolled 55 or 66.

No redouble/take. I think Red will win more games keeping the cube.

What interests me about this position is this: Red MUST hit to win. Down 26 pips, even double 5's or 6's won't make him the favorite.

Redouble/take. This is highly volatile. Red has 20 shots that hit and pretty much win. He is a favourite to do so, therefore he must double. On any miss, white has a redouble, and I don't see any way that red can take - Therefore, RD/T.
