• 2019 - Position 60

Money Play. Should Red double? If doubled, should White take?

For once the pip count is irrelevant. White is in a lot of trouble. He has a checker trapped behind a growing prime. He also has two stripped outer board points. Those spell danger as a bad entry from the bar at the wrong time could expose another blot.

White does win nearly 25% of the games but he loses nearly 15% gammons which means that this is a huge pass and taking is a blunder. On its initial evaluation XG has this as a borderline take but the rollout soon unearths the truth. White must let this one go. I hope everybody doubled as Red!

Even though red is significantly behind in the race, he has a very strong position. Double. White's position is stripped, and his back checker is in danger of being hemmed in. However, I think he can eke out a take based on the racing lead and squeezing the back checker out and round, but it's probably close.

In all likelihood White is going to need to escape from a 5 point prime even if he tosses a 2. This is a good one to let go. D/P.

I've lost many games taking similar positions as White. His racing lead will turn out to be useless most of the time, because he will be primed. Most of his rolls will dump checkers deep in his home board, sometimes leaving blots in the outfield. I believe it is a big pass.
