• 2019 - Position 49

Match Play. 4-4 to 7. Should Red redouble? If redoubled, should White take?

For money this would be a grossly premature redouble but once the cube is on 4 gammons don’t count and the cube is dead. Those factors make a huge difference.

The volatility indicates a double and that is precisely the case. Very clear double and equally well, a very clear take. Not redoubling is a 1.5 blunder while dropping is a 2.5 blunder. Once again the match score is the dominant factor.

Not sure this would be close to a redouble in a money game, but at this score it looks like a good pressure redouble. As white, I wouldn't be certain if this is a take or not - but given the huge racing lead, and the small likelihood (11 shots this roll) that red will hit the blot, I'd take rather than play from 4-6 down (crawford).
