Match Play. Double Match Point. How should Red play 54?

As you might expect, paying now with 13/8, 10/6 is the correct play, paying now while White’s home board is so weak.

What is surprising is that the safe play, 10/5, 8/4 is not quite an error. This is partly because the safe play gives Red a good distribution and partly because it is surprising how quickly White can build an attack against the lone Red checker if it is hit initially.

13/8,10/6. White's homeboard is currently weak, but that won't be for long. Pay now while the going's good.
