Welcome to my blog of interesting backgammon positions.

These will be posted more or less daily and also tweeted. As I add a new position I will give a  commentary for the previous one.

2019 - Position 206

By Chris Bray, Nov 12 2019 04:14PM

Match Play. Red leads 4-0 to 7. Should Red double? If doubled, should White take?

For money this is a huge pass. At this score the position comes into the “too good, not good enough” category.

Red should not give White the potential leverage of a redouble to 4 but rather he should play on for an undoubled gammon to get him to 6-0 (Crawford).

ND/T. A bit consevative perhaps.

I would hold off on doubling as well. 4 points ahead in a match to 7 is significant, and Red could have some difficulting escaping the rear checkers.
