2019 - Position 206

Match Play. Red leads 4-0 to 7. Should Red double? If doubled, should White take?


For money this is a huge pass. At this score the position comes into the “too good, not good enough” category.


Red should not give White the potential leverage of a redouble to 4 but rather he should play on for an undoubled gammon to get him to 6-0 (Crawford).

I would hold off on doubling as well. 4 points ahead in a match to 7 is significant, and Red could have some difficulting escaping the rear checkers.
