2019 - Position 193

Match Play. 2-2 to 5. Should Red redouble? If redoubled, should White take?


For money, Red would redouble and White would have to pass due to the high gammon loss percentage.


At this score redoubling would take Red’s gammon wins out of equation so White would have an easy take. Therefore, Red should hold the cube and play on for the gammon which would win the match for him. Redoubling here is a blunder.

No redouble/take. Red is not a big favourite, but many of his wins are gammons. Why throw them away?
