• 2019 - Position 17

Match Play. 1-1 to 5. Should Red double? If doubled, should White take?

Virtually all prime versus prime positions are double and takes and this one is no exception. A six would lose Red’s market but equally well his home board could very quickly crunch if he rolls a couple of doubles or fails to roll a 6.

Not doubling such a volatile position is worse than a double blunder while dropping is merely a 1.5 blunder thus demonstrating how easy it is to go wrong in prime versus prime positions!

There are two good pieces of advise about prime versus prime. Always take, and don't give the cube away. That would indicate ND/T. Still, at this score, I think I would double. There are just to many gammons around. D/T.
