• 2018 - Position 172

Match Play. Red trails 2-3 to 5. Should Red double? If, doubled, should White take?

My opponent mistakenly took my double in this position in an online match. That was a triple blunder.

White’s take point is around 29% at this score and he is nowhere near that. The race is deceptive as red has only nine pips to roll before he starts to bear off while White has 22. Hi hitting chances are minimal and if may be he who has to leave the first shot.

White wins only 21.5% of the time from here. He should give this one up and effectively play at DMP.

D/P. With high numbers Red can run, and with low numbers wait for a shot. On top of that, White's taking point is close to 30%.
